On the occasion of 150 years of friendship between Belgium and Japan, Floralies of Gent welcomed Iemoto Akane Teshigahara as a guest of honor.
Akane Teshigahara was born in 1960, the second daughter of Hiroshi Teshigahara, film director, and third Iemoto of Sogetsu School. Her grandfather is Sofu Teshigahara, the firstIemoto. She learned ikebana from Kasumi Teshigahara, her aunt and second Iemoto from her early childhood. Please check out her blog to read about the impressions of her visit.
The event included a demonstration, a workshop, and the creation of several pieces including a spectacular bamboo installation. This event was made possible by Japanese embassy and members of Belgian and Dutch Sogetsu branches. Many months of preparation were involved and 10 days of hard work behind the scenes with the Sogetsu Japan team. Ilse Beunen (Ikebana Belgium) did a great job documenting the event and can be seen here.
